One of the effects of impeachment fever has been to knock the exploits of Greta Thunberg, the teenaged “leader” of the children’s climate change crusade.

However, the Washington Examiner is reporting that a 2018 tweet from the Church of Sweden has resurfaced in the wake of Thunberg’s “How Dare You” speech before the United Nations. The tweet declared the child with mental health issues to be “the heir of Jesus Christ.”

The Church of Sweden is a Lutheran domination church that, until the year 2000, was the state-supported church in Sweden. It remains the largest Christian denomination in that country with a membership of 5.9 million baptized members.

It is the largest Lutheran church in Europe and the third-largest in the world. The Church of Sweden has been in existence since the early 17th Century since Sweden joined the Protestant Reformation.

The Church of Sweden is known for its liberal theology in modern times, with female clerics and tolerance for gay rights. The church has taken up the issue of climate change as a unifying creed.

When the original tweet that, in essence, defied Greta Thunberg, Swedish Christians have a range of reactions to it from amusement to outrage. The Washington Examiner translated a few of them.

“Time and time again I ask myself: when was the Swedish church kidnapped by left-wing extremists?” one user wrote.

Twitter being what it is, some were snarky in their reaction.

“Should you now abandon the celebration of Jesus’ birthday and start celebrating Greta Thunberg’s birthday instead?” one person said. “After all, we members must know who is the Savior we should worship and pay homage to?”

Greta’s birthday is January 2, 2003, for those who are wondering.

After some pushback, the Church suspended the Twitter account with the following message:

“Dear Twitter, If we have hurt someone we apologize, it has never been our meaning. Our meaning has been to talk about Jesus Christ in our own way. Now we leave the arena. Thank you for your commitment, joy, and debate. God bless you! Jonas Persson, ward pastor.”

The tweets have not been deleted, however.

No one, at least in the English-speaking world, knows what the Church of Sweden meant when it declared Thunberg to be the heir of Jesus Christ. So far, no miracles such as the healing of the sick, the feeding of the multitudes, or the raising of the dead have been ascribed to the teenage climate crusader.

However, like Jesus, Greta Thunberg a multitude of followers, especially in the media which has been quite effusive in their praise of her spunk and her apparent ability to annoy more climate skeptical adults.

President Donald Trump has taken to his Twitter feed to mock her. On the other hand, Fox News has banned a frequent guest for referring to Thunberg’s various mental conditions, including Asperger’s and OCD.

It should be noted that the Church of Sweden is not the only entity that has likened Greta Thunberg to the man that billions of people regard as the Son of God and the savior of humankind.

Sarah Silverman, who is currently in hot water when an old picture of her in blackface resurfaced, has jumped on the bandwagon. According to the Blaze, Silverman tweeted, “You think you will recognize Jesus when he comes back? I see him all around. He is this girl. And y’all don’t even see it.”

Talking about coming back as a thief in the night. Silverman, by the way, is Jewish.

In the area that is more bizarre and esoteric, Greta’s “How Dare You” speech has been made into a death metal song courtesy of a YouTube artist named John Mollusk.

The site Louder reports that 4 million people have viewed the video, including Greta Thunberg who has offered her endorsement. The mashup is being released as a single, all proceeds going to Greenpeace.

As of this writing, Greta is in Canada, intending to make a progress through North America, eventually winding up at a climate change conference in Santiago, Chile.

She had an audience with the embattled Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, whom she admonished for not doing enough to fight climate change. Her most recent tweet contains a smiling picture of herself, apparently at a sheep farm.

“Travelling slowly through North America, heading eventually for Santiago. I will stop and visit as many places as I can, and of course protest every Friday no matter where I am!”
