Dr. Fauci may have become a pop-culture icon over the past year, but he’s never known for being the bearer of good news.
Every time the man opens his mouth, he brings doom and gloom. One mask, two masks, three masks… How many masks does he really expect us to wear at one time?
Whether the masks work or not is still up for debate. However, in Biden’s America, more and more places are requiring them. So, regardless of where you lie on the political spectrum, you need to strap a mask to your face.
No one likes the masks. Sure, some people try to make the best of the situation with designer masks. We look for new features like adjustable ear loops and bendable nose wires. We’re just trying to get by in the most comfortable way possible.
The media never likes to share any of the good news. And there is good news.
With states across the country vaccinating in an orderly fashion, COVID cases have dropped significantly. In the past six weeks, cases have fallen by 77%.
This is good news, and we should be celebrating.
Whoa, let’s slow down.
The Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases doesn’t want anyone to get excited. Those masks are going to be around for a while.
He talks about reaching a “significant degree of normality” by the end of 2021. Fantastic, so what’s the problem. Well, he likes to sprinkle in the gloom whenever he can, so he adds that “a lot of things can happen” to prevent the normality from showing up.
That’s when Dana Bash of CNN asks if Americans will still be wearing masks in 2022.
“You know, I think it is possible,” Dr. Fauci responds.
And upon hearing that, the entire country threw a temper tantrum.
In 2020, we were given the glimmer of hope that masks would be tossed into bonfires by the fall or winter months of 2021. Now, Dr. Fauci is telling us to be prepared to wear them into 2022.
He wants us to redefine what we mean by “normality.”
Umm, how about pre-2020 life?
Between herd immunity and the vaccines, cases are going to continue to fall. So, if people are either vaccinated or immune, what would be the point of wearing a mask? After all, these vaccines are being touted as being 94% effective (or higher). If they’re not as effective as they claim, then people are going to stop getting them. And if they are as effective, then why keep wearing the mask?
Obviously, the average American is being left out of an important part of the dialogue here.
What gives? Why should we have to keep wearing a mask into 2022 if the vaccines are administered to most Americans?
Well, Fauci doesn’t want to provide any kind of hope. He lives for disappointing Americans.
While he says that most people will have access to the vaccine by May or June, he wants to keep masks on the table (and strapped to the faces of Americans) well into 2022.
Fauci needs to deliver some kind of good news.
Most Americans will define “normal” in the same way – being able to go to any store or any establishment without being temperature-checked and without being forced to wear a mask.
Further, if he really expects people to get vaccinated, “normal” will have to come a lot sooner than 2022. Otherwise, there will be entire cities setting up bonfires for public displays of mask-burning in protest.
The country needs to get back to normal. Schools need to open. Businesses need to open. And Americans need to say goodbye to these masks once and for all.
Biden needs to re-think allowing Fauci to be the face of America’s response to COVID. We need someone who can actually instill hope in Americans if we’re to keep at this for more than a few more months.
