Many people who knew nothing or cared nothing of the border crises and criticized the president for pushing the wall issue are not scoffing at him anymore. Shirley Menard who is the owner of the River Bend Resort and Golf Club which is alongside the Rio Grand River reluctantly voted for Donald Trump in 2016.
Now, she is glad she did and realizes the fight he is up against with the Democrats when it comes to the border being protected. She is also supporting the plan to build a 30-foot high wall to divide the resort and the Rio Grande, but she does have some concerns for the community.
As the old saying goes, “You can’t please everyone.” Well, that saying is true even for the border. There is no doubt our border needs to be protected, and we all know the reasons. Many at the resort in Brownsville, TX voted for President Trump in 2016, but the area was claimed by Hillary Clinton in the election.
A few pictures show many residents in the resort who many are over 55 wearing their MAGA hats proudly while playing golf. As President Trump told his aides, “take the land” as needed for the wall to be built, residences of the community were on edge because the wall will pass through the backyard of the resort and will put hundreds of homes on the south side of the wall.
The media plays it as though the people will not be able to get out, which is not true. There will be a guarded gate where people can come and go free if they are legal citizens. No one will be trapped on the other side.
Most of the people who voted for the president say they will vote for him again in 2020 and the border wall does not deter their decision. It enhances their choice because they understand and know the issues of illegal immigrants passing through people’s yards at night.
One resident told reporters, “If there’s a good purpose for having that wall cut right through our little community, I guess I would go along with it.”
Ms. Menard told reporters, “I never thought they’d go through a subdivision. My blood pressure has not been normal since I got that letter.” She does support the wall but has issues with where the wall is passing.
Others in the community do not mind either way and are selling their property to allow the wall to go through the area. Some are furious. Mostly those who voted for Hillary.
President Trump has promised 500 miles of the border wall to be completed by the end of his first term, and he is determined to get it done. The Pentagon is also on his side and has thrown in $3.6 billion to get it done.
President Trump made the statement to his aides, “Get the job done by whatever means necessary, including by seizing land on the Mexican frontier.”
White House Spokesman told reporters, touching base on the fake news, “He is doing what he can to deliver on the promise, and quickly. The accounts amounted to more false fabrications by people who hate the fact the status quo that has crippled this country for decades is finally changing as President Trump is moving quicker than anyone in history to build the wall, secure the border, and enact the very immigration policies the American people voted for.”
Some reporters falsely put words in Trump’s mouth insinuating he was going to allow officials to “break the law.” Wednesday, a White House senior official stated that was not true. He said, “The President had never seriously raised pardons or asked anyone to break the law.”
He claimed the president was joking and “he winks when he does it.” Wednesday, the president said it was false that he never offered or will offer any pardon for any person or persons who break the law. The same deal President Trump said in January in the Rose Garden holds true now.
In his speech, he stated, “Eminent domain is very interesting. But without eminent domain, you wouldn’t have any highways, you wouldn’t have any schools, you wouldn’t have any roadways. What we’re doing with eminent domain is, in many cases, we’ll make a deal upfront.”
People are taking the president seriously now, realizing he will get what he wants. The border wall will be built one way or another.
